This week our field trip did not have us going far. We decided to take a walk and have a picnic. We hiked down the forested hill behind our house, down to a meadow where the creek runs.
Nykki brought his bow and arrow to practice a few shots.
It was a beautiful sunny day
Ronan had the best seat in the house
We stopped by the ruins of the old snack shop
It use to be open when people from the nearby lodge would come and swim in the creek during the summers. I like to try and picture it in it's hayday, full of happy people in 1950's swimwear and dark sun glasses, ordering french fries and swinging from ropes into the pooling creek below. The building has such a presence now as it stands in the middle of a wooded area with no apparent use. Those olden day summers have left behind many spirits, can you see them?
When I stand before this now silent snack shack I can practically hear the rock n' roll music and smell the hotdogs. In the couner of my eye I catch flickers of days long past, like a scene from the movie Dirty Dancing - summer vacationing families back in the days when American workers still got vacations - laughing and playing.
