Culturing Malt O Meal


We follow a Nourishing Traditions diet. To this end I culture, sprout and ferment many of our foods. I recently gave culturing Malt O Meal a whirl since we get it free from WIC. I'm assuming this can be done with any mush cereal like Cream of Wheat or Bear Mush.

Take one cup Malt O Meal, place it in a covered bowl with two cups water and two table spoons high quality yogurt, mixed well. Cover and place in a warm (not cold) location for about 24 hours.

When you're ready to cook it place the pot on the burner on medium heat. Whisk Malt O Meal every minute or so until it get's hot then stir constantly, adding more water if needed until it is completely cooked.

To increase health benefits we mix it with raw milk and a big dab of organic butter and a spoonful of raw honey. Yum!
