The GOP really is a twisted bunch.
U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, citing cost concerns, is threatening to block a vote on legislation that would provide additional aid to those suffering from illnesses linked to the devastation in New York following the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Oklahoma Republican said yesterday that he is trying to reach an agreement with the sponsors of the $6.2 billion measure that would allow it to proceed. He couldn't say whether that would happen before lawmakers adjourn for the year.

"We're working on it," Coburn said. "It costs too much; it allows things to be covered that should never be covered, like sleep apnea; it pays way too much to health-care providers."

The "Whitest of the Aesir"

George Allen
Potential GOP Senate Candidate

Dear
Gov. Allen,

I understand you're considering another run for the Senate. I'm glad you're doing it. I think you'll be able to overcome all the criticism you received in your last run for hurling racial epithets, hanging a noose and a Confederate flag in your office, and sticking severed deer heads in black families' mailboxes. You just need to put it all in its proper context. I have an idea that you can use to do just that.

As I'm sure you are aware,
your friends at the White Citizens Council Council of Conservative Citizens are organizing a boycott of the Marvel Comics movie, "Thor." They object the studio's casting of Stringer Bell to play one of Thor's fellow gods, Heimdall. You see, he doesn't look Norwegian at all--in fact, he's the-black.

Ian Huyett, a paleoconservative-libertarian student leader at Kansas State,
explains why it's so wrong to have a the-black play Heimdall:

Heimdall was revered by generations of my ancestors...as "hvítastr ása" or the "whitest of the aesir"...While Marvel likely intended Mr. Elba's casting to be a gesture of harmless irony, choosing an African actor to portray "the white god" displays a profound and acerbic disrespect both for people of Germanic descent
My God, man. There it is. Heimdall was the "whitest of the aesir"--kind of like Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen--it's an insult to the Germans to introduce even a speck of melanin into such an important comic book character's body paint.

You have to run with this Governor. It'll put the proper context to your past problems--you don't hate black people, you just want to make sure Norwegians get their due.

Heterosexually yours,

Gen. JC Christian, patriot

Sen. Lindsey Graham About To Be Outed?

America's least favorite gay porn.

Wonkette reports that outing kingpin Mike Rogers finally has the goods on Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Lindsey Graham, South Carolina's favorite lifelong bachelor and former military prosecutor, is always reliably against homosexuals having any basic human rights in America because Lindsey's a Republican, y'all. Anyway, famous outer-of-self-hating-queers Mike Rogers says he's got pictures of one of Lindsey's boy toys leaving Lindsey's house. This would be SHOCKING because come on, everybody knows Republicans cannot be gay because Jesus did not make gays.

Mike Rogers has a 100% track record for correctly outing anti-gay closet cases. He's never been proven wrong.

Brokenhearted Rep. Louie Gohmert Recalls Snubbing By Gay Soldier

The first cut is the deepest.

A fantastic thing about any kind of gay-related legislation is it gives Republicans a chance to talk about the many homos they've known and loved throughout their lives. For example, a near-tearful Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Texas, obviously) just gave a very moving speech on the House floor about his carefree days as a soldier in the Army barracks. Seems there was an "overt homosexual" or two in the barracks, and then came the very sad moment when the most overtly gay soldier of all missed a signal, apparently, in the dark, and went to the wrong "straight" soldier's bunk, for anal sex. Louie Gohmert still hasn't forgotten the way it felt when that beautiful hunk of young man just strutted right past Louie Gohmert's bunk, as he explains in this heartfelt "It Gets Better" video.

Let's hear Holy Louie blow his mad riffs, his cum-stained cold war memories, blew and blown by those human seraphim, the soldiers, caresses of Lone Star love in the rotten mosquito night! Moloch the incomprehensible prison barracks! Moloch the crossbone soulless jailhouse and Congress of sorrows! Moloch whose buildings are judgment! Moloch the vast stone of war! Moloch the stunned governments!

In one of the most blatant attempts at fear-mongering I have seen since the Healthcare Reform debate, Mitch McConnell is now claiming that President Obama is trying to nationalize and take control over the Internet itself!

"Today, the Obama administration, which has already nationalized health care, the auto industry, insurance companies, banks and student loans, will move forward with what could be the first step in controlling how Americans use the Internet by establishing federal regulations on its use," said McConnell.

If you ignore the fact that we didn't nationalize any of the institutions which he is claiming, and you read this in conservative code-speak, it actually makes some sense. When McConnell says "Americans" what he really means is "Corporations." Corporations do not want federal regulations on its use. Republicans are opposed to Net Neutrality because they believe corporations should have the right to nickel and dime their customers and charge for traffic priority.

How much more shit must the conservative base eat before they realize they've been sold down a river?

Update - The FCC has approved rules in favor of neutrality

Well this is pretty cool: Bill Clinton is PETA's person of the year.

###

They just never ever stop: Just hours before President Obama plans to sign on Wednesday the repeal of the military's 17-year ban on gays serving openly in the armed forces, Republicans appear to be trying one last legislative maneuver to block the change.

McCain really can't sink any lower, but he sure is trying:

In April, Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.) introduced legislation named after the late soldier meant to provide more resources for suicide prevention to Reserve members. The House in May incorporated it into the National Defense Authorization Act for 2011, but it was stripped from the final version, and Holt is pointing the finger at the lead Republican negotiator on the Senate legislation, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

"Twice now, the Senate has stripped this legislation from our defense bill," Holt told The Huffington Post Tuesday. "It's hard to understand why. I know for a fact, because he told me, that Sen. McCain doesn't support it. Whether he's the only one, I don't know. But there was no effort to try to improve the language or negotiate changes; it was just rejected, and I think that is not only bad policy, but it's cruel. It's cruel to the families that are struggling with catastrophic mental health problems."

"He [McCain] said having these counselors check in with the Reservists every few months this way overreaching," continued Holt, relaying a phone conversation he had had with the senator. "I asked him in what sense it was overreaching. Surely he didn't think there wasn't a problem, did he? I must say I don't understand it."

Is it possible that the bullet we dodged in 2008 wasn't Palin, but McCain?

That didn't take long.

Because it's going to be a different internet from now on, one that belongs to the corporations instead of the people.

The new census numbers are out!  The new census numbers are out! "The US population has risen by almost 10% in the last 10 years to stand at 308.7 million, according to new data from the US Census Bureau. But the population figure marked the slowest growth in a decade since the Great Depression of the 1930s. The south and west of the country continued their population expansion. The individual states' populations will be used to reapportion the number of representatives each state sends to the US Congress for the next 10 years. The total population of the US grew to 308,745,538 in 2010, up from 281.4m a decade ago, Census director Robert Groves said at a news briefing announcing the 2010 results. Roughly 60% of the increase was from individuals born inside the US, while 40% was the result of those immigrating to the country, Mr Groves said."

WikiLeaks people constantly being assassinated, according to Assange

'Thanks for the compliment! But I'm not a Hindu. That's a sniper laser.'

WikiLeaks leader Julian Assange is hanging out in his British perp-castle of journalism right now, with nothing to do but get angry at newspapers for publishing details of his alleged rapes. But that doesn't mean everyone isn't trying to assassinate him. They totally are! Julian Assange is very excited about this. "I have a serious organisation to run. People affiliated with our organisation have already been assassinated. My work is serious." He is serious, you guys. Stop talking about those trivial rapes those Swedes are alleging. In fact, he is so serious that he told us he has Googled himself and it returned 40 million results! READ MORE »

Feeling sick at the very thought if this, but remembering who, exactly, it was who set the board up this way (lookin' at you, aWol...) "The White House is preparing an Executive Order on indefinite detention that will provide periodic reviews of evidence against dozens of prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, according to several administration officials. ... The draft order, a version of which was first considered nearly 18 months ago, is expected to be signed by President Obama early in the New Year. The order allows for the possibility that detainees from countries like Yemen might be released if circumstances there change. ... But the order establishes indefinite detention as a long-term Obama administration policy and makes clear that the White House alone will manage a review process for those it chooses to hold without charge or trial."

AFA's Bryan Fischer: 'Obama wants to give America back to the Indians'

IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW

The American Family Association's Bryan Fischer writes about important religious issues, so of course his attention today has turned to the heathen American Indians who were righteously defeated by the kind, ethical, Christian cowboys. American presidents have traditionally been pro-cowboy regarding this epic struggle. But then Barack Obama got elected. "President Obama wants to give the entire land mass of the United States of America back to the Indians," Fischer says. "He wants Indian tribes to be our new overlords." And what's more, Obama is in league with the U.N., which owns property on the isle of Manhattan (formerly owned by Native Americans), to make this happen. READ MORE »
