"It's half-way between Kenya and the US," Mr. Obama explained, "so in the spirit of bipartisan compromise I'm going to admit that I was born in Morocco. I haven't seen the long-form birth certificate either and I don't remember my birth, so who knows? There's probably some truth in both sides. I hope by extending this olive branch to my opponents that we can lay this matter to rest."

We're just kicking the can down the road as Congress runs up the credit card. And all they have to do is NOTHING and let all this nonsense expire. But it looks like that not what they are going to do. Marc Perkel
Excellent points.
The unemployed voted (by not voting) for the party out to kill their unemployment checks.
In Nevada, Reid lost the elderly vote to a Social Security-hating crazy woman.
Obama gave away the farm over the pretense of "saving" the middle class,
but if people bothered to vote, maybe Obama could've been a better negotiator.
I don't mean that - he's the worst negotiator ever.
SPIEGEL: And the American decline. Are Americans aware of that trend or does the fate of Carter await President Barak Obama should he openly address the issue?
Brzezinski: I am very worried that most Americans are close to total ignorance about the world. They are ignorant. That is an unhealthy condition in a country in which foreign policy has to be endorsed by the people if it is to be pursued. And it makes it much more difficult for any president to pursue an intelligent policy that does justice to the complexity of the world.
SPIEGEL: Yet the American right is still convinced of American exceptionalism.
Brzezinski: That is a reaction to the inability of people to understand global complexity or important issues like American energy dependency. Therefore, they search for simplistic sources of comfort and clarity. And the people that they are now selecting to be, so to speak, the spokespersons of their anxieties are, in most cases, stunningly ignorant.
Duh, but thanks for saying it out loud, Zbig.

As Media Czech notes in disgust, the NYT and other national coverage of the ark being built ignores the Menace to Civilization aspects of the project, like the dinosaurs.

More good environmental news. "The population of endangered mountain gorillas has increased significantly in the last 30 years, say researchers. A census carried out in the Virunga Massif - where most of the world's mountain gorillas live - revealed 480 individuals living in 36 groups. Conservationists say that, 30 years ago, only 250 gorillas survived in this same area. Along with the 302 mountain gorillas from a census in Bwindi in 2006, the world population is now more than 780. The Virunga Massif includes three contiguous national parks: Parc National des Virunga in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. The only other location where mountain gorillas exist is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. A 2003 census estimated the population in Virunga at 380 individuals - so the current figure suggests that the population has increased by just over 25% in the last seven years."
