Scripture

Scriptures #1

Helaman 14
1. [20] But behold, as I said unto you concerning another sign, a sign of his death, behold, in that day that he shall suffer death the sun shall be darkened and refuse to give his light unto you; and also the moon and the stars; and there shall be no light upon the face of this land, even from the time that he shall suffer death, for the space of three days, to the time that he shall rise again from the dead.

3 Nephi 8
1. [22] And there was not any light seen, neither fire, nor glimmer, neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars, for so great were the mists of darkness which were upon the face of the land.

Scripture #2

The Moon is the celestial Mother
I am daughter of the Moon
Devoted to Artemis.
My blood is Amazon
My life is Amazon.
Servant to my Nation
and to my Sisters.
I am daughter of the Moon.

Lesson Summary

The moon is very important to the earth and the people. We can all feel the energy of the moon as it grows large, shrinks down, disappears and then grows large again. It’s rhythym pulls the tides and speaks to our bodies.

Tonight, during the full moon we ask for blessings of abundance the moon can bring us. We see the moon as representative of the Goddess, specifically Artemis, one of the faces of our Heavenly Mother. Ancient people saw the moon as a shinning, divine breast, or golden apple of honey, milk and abundance in the sky. They named the moons, they called to the moons, they prayed to the moons just as we may do now.

We also see the moon as representative of Christ’s light. As we learned in our scripture lesson the moon refused to shine when Christ died and only returned to us upon his resurrection. Tonight we celebrate the fullness of the moon, the shinning light of the Goddess and Christ.

Points to Ponder

What does the full moon look like to you?

What are some abundant things we are thankful to the Moon Goddess for?

How does the full moon make us feel?

If you could name the moon tonight, what would you name it?

(Hint: What’s going on in the nature around you? What is the moon shining on? I think we may call ours the planters moon or the warm moon)

The Word Christ

Taking the name of the Savior upon our selves. Finding eternal life only through Christ. Finding Christ. Following Christ. Being Chirst-like.

These are terms heard often in Christianity. It seems to Christians this means following the deeds, words and actions of a man called Jesus Christ, who appears in the Bible but can it mean something else as well?

To me it does.

Photobucket

No doubt the man who lived and loved in the New Testament is a wonderful example to follow and I love learning more about him, praying to him and reading about him - his thoughts, words, actions and motivations. However, I recognize that not everyone feels this way, and a vast majority of the world does not choose to see him as their Savior, redeemer, guru, teacher, prophet or messiah.

So how do the words of scripture pertainging to salvation only through Christ apply to people who choose not to follow him or who have never heard of him? As a Mormon-Pagan I believe in the Universal doctorine of salvation (no one is going to hell).

I also believe strongly in the 11th article of faith as delivered by Joseph Smith from our Heavenly Parents. It reads, "We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."

Mosiah 5:8 states, "There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives."

No other name given whereby salvation cometh - you can only be saved through Christ.

Fair enough, but only through Christ or only through Jesus Christ?

Ah, here's where it gets tricky. The scriptures usually says Christ. "It is only through Christ" not specifically Jesus Christ.

The Articles of Faith are a great example of this. The first article says, "We believe in God the eternal Father, and in His Son Jesus Christ..." So it's clear that to be Mormon you would need to believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God but in the third article we find, "We believe that through the atonment of Christ, all mankind may be saved ..." So for all of humankind to be saved they must atone through Christ, but it does not say Jesus Christ.

Do you see what I mean? For Mormons it was specific, we believe in Jesus Christ, but for all of mankind it was general, through the atonment of Christ.

But there is no other Christ, you say, Jesus Christ is Christ.

Well, maybe he is the only person to whom the word Christ can be affixed and maybe he's not, it depends on what you believe. That's not to say that Christ can be applied generally to anyone. We can't just decide one day to worship Bob Christ just because we use the word Christ what I am saying is we should take a look at the word Christ itself. What does it mean? We all know it wasn't Jesus' last name.

Photobucket

Come with me will you? Let's take a journey to the good folks over at onlinedictionary.com.

Christ \Christ\, n. [L. Christus, Gr. ?, fr. ? anointed, fr.
chri`ein to anoint. See Chrism.]
The Anointed; an appellation given to Jesus, the Savior. It
is synonymous with the Hebrew Messiah.
[1913 Webster]

Christ
n 1: a teacher and prophet born in Bethlehem and active in
Nazareth; his life and sermons form the basis for
Christianity (circa 4 BC - AD 29) [syn: Jesus, Jesus of Nazareth
, the Nazarene, Jesus Christ, Christ,
Savior, Saviour, Good Shepherd, Redeemer,
Deliverer]

2: any expected deliverer [syn: messiah, christ]

Christ
anointed, the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered
"Messiah"
(q.v.), the official title of our Lord, occurring five
hundred and fourteen times in the New Testament. It denotes that
he was anointed or consecrated to his great redemptive work as
Prophet, Priest, and King of his people. He is Jesus the Christ
(Acts 17:3; 18:5; Matt. 22:42), the Anointed One. He is thus
spoken of by Isaiah (61:1), and by Daniel (9:24-26), who styles
him "Messiah the Prince."

So the word Christ itself seems to have been the Greek word for Messiah that was applied to Jesus after it was deemed that he was the Messiah foretold of by Hebrew scriptures.

Terrific, and by the way, I believe he was. So what then does Messiah mean?

Again let's check in with the good people of onlinedictionary.com

messiah
n 1: any expected deliverer [syn: messiah, christ]
2: Jesus Christ; considered by Christians to be the promised
deliverer
3: the awaited king of the Jews; the promised and expected
deliverer of the Jewish people
4: an oratorio composed by Handel in 1742

So if a messiah is any expected deliever or specifically Jesus, then to take the name of Christ, to follow Christ, to be like Christ as our only means of salvation doesn't seem to me that one need believe specifically in Jesus of Nazareth as that person. Can one find salvation through any good deliever? Through any foretold messanger of peace and love?

I would make the argument that, yes, one could. When scriptures speak of baptisim, following Christ, taking upon the name of Christ for ourselves it is fine to see Christ as Jesus but I think that scripture is more expansive then that and allows for nearly any loving and peaceful belief structure to fufill the need to find salvation through (a) Christ in our lives.

So finding salvation through a redeemer of love and peace, through a child of God, is the only means of salvation. But what does slavation mean? Ah, that's another blog altogether my friends.

We've moved our Family Circle Evening again to Sunday nights. It makes since for us now that the kids and I are regularly attending the Lakeport UU church on Sunday mornings, it kind of brings the day together and keeps me focused on my connection to the Divine and relaxation.

Here's what we have planned for tonight

Opening Song: New Moon Song, Circle Round p. 58 - Mama

Opening Prayer: Mama and Nykki

Dear Heavenly Mother and Heavenly Father,
We want to thank you for our blessings. For our family, our health, our home and happiness.

We know you by many names; Isis, Astarte, Ashera, Yemaya, Oshun, Dark Madonna, Virgin Mary.
We see you in the form of the wise and ancient crone on this new moon eve.
Guide us over the next year. Help us to make good decisions and healthy choices. Keep us from harm and warm us in your Divine presence with love and light.
We ask these things in the name of our prophets Yeshua and Mariamne Christ.
Amen and Blessed Be

Ostara and Easter Story

Here's the easter story of my tradition. I thought I would share and I hope not to offend anyone only to share my personal belief. Thanks :)

Come sit in the sunshine under the bright blue spring sky and I will tell you the story of Ostara and Easter.

spring

A long, long time ago, people had different holidays then we do now. Many of them celebrated when the sky changed, when the trees blossomed or when their leaves fell. They celebrated the changing light or the way the stars moved. One of the holidays that the ancient people celebrated, and that some people still celebrate today was the first day of spring.

ostara

The first day of spring was called Ostara by the Germanic peoples of Europe. It was named for their Goddess Eostre who was the Goddess of bunnies, fertility, eggs, baby animals, new shoots, plants, birds and the spring time earth in general.

easter eggs

Many people in old Europe and around the world would have parties on the first day of spring. They would sing and dance, they would paint eggs as a symbol of fertility and they would celebrate fertile animals such as the bunny rabbit.

jesus

About 2,000 years ago there was prophet in Jerusalem. His name was Yeshua, but he is known now by his Greek name, Jesus. Jesus preached to people about love and tolerance. He taught everyone that we are all the divine children of the great Spirit, of the God and Goddess. He represented for people then and now, the holiness that everyone has inside of them. To many people, Jesus and his partner Mary Magdalene, known in Greek as Marimane, were their saviors and their most beloved teachers.

jesus preaching

The people who ruled the lands where Jesus and Marimane preached did not like the message that they were teaching. The rulers thought that if everyone listened to Jesus and loved everyone and treated everyone with respect and kindness that the rulers would not be able to control the people any longer. The rulers did not want the people to know that they were the divine children of the great Spirit, of God, because if they knew that they would no longer pay the outrageous temples fees or go to the temple rabbis. The ruler would lose control and money and they did not like the idea of that.

Jesus

So the rulers went and found Jesus and took him to a hill where they nailed him to a cross. This practice was called crucifixion and it was suppose to kill Jesus. What the rulers did not know was that in his life's teachings and traveling Jesus had spent time in the land of Kerela, which is in what we now call India. He knew some of the secret teachings of the yogis and of the Hindu Gods and Goddesses. He knew how to live for a long time and how to pretend to be dead by making his breathing very faint and by slowing his heart beat.

He hung on the cross for many days. All those who loved Jesus grieved for him because they knew he was in a lot of pain. When he did not die fast enough the soldiers on the hill took a sword and stabbed him his side.

Jesus looked up at the heavens and said, "Forgive them Father for they know not what they do." With his partner Marimane and his mother Mary crying at his feet Jesus meditated. He slowed his heart rate and made his breathing very faint. Everyone thought Jesus had died.

moon

They took him off the cross and placed him in a tomb. While in the tomb the moon refused to shine. Every month we know that the moon goes dark for three days. The new moon we call it. The light and joy of Jesus is like that of the moon and for three days Jesus and the moon where dark.

Jesus & Mary at The Tomb1

On the third day Marimane went to Jesus’ tomb to tend to this body and she found he was not there! She was amazed and wondered what happened to him. Then he appeared to her. He had descended in trance to the underworld and had become an enlightened being. He was no longer bound by the forces of earth that we know. He could go anywhere in any moment with just a thought. And he told his beloved Marimane, the most loved of his disciples, that he was not dead, that he had risen and that in the name of the great Spirit, of God and Goddess, he would go and continue to teach their message of love, peace and inner divinity.

jesus

And so he did, traveling to the Americas and many other places. Jesus suffered on the cross and in so doing saved all of us. He freed us from the burden of death. He showed us that death was not the end. And just like many gods, known by many names, Krishna, Vishnu, Shiva, Kronos, Osiris, etc. He taught us that being kind and loving and declaring our inner divinity made death nothing more than a gateway we all pass through to come resurrected on the other side in a new form. Jesus returns to all of us the ancient mystery of rebirth celebrated at this time in early spring.

Eostrejesus

So now we can celebrate spring with fertility Goddesses like Eostre who bring the rain and sun to the earth to grow our food. We can celebrate with painted eggs, bunnies, chocolate and good food with our friends and family and we can also celebrate Easter as the day that we Jesus emerged, resurrected and enlightened from his tomb. The day he helped to restore to us old ancient truths.

Mor'moon

Packing, sorting, random access to internet service - nothing, I have found, can keep me from blogging... tee hee...

jesus christ

So I was thinking more about the Mor'moon concept I came up with in this post.

Essentially Joseph Smith wrote as to the orgin of the word Mormon, "We say from the Saxon, good; the Dane, god; the Latin, bonus; the Greek, kalos; the Hebrew, tob; and the Egyptian, mon. Hence, with the addition of more, or the contraction, mor, we have the word MORMON; which means, literally, more good."

So I came up with Mor'moon as a play on words to simmer in the mind. Well, it's simmered and *ding* it's done, here's what it means to me.

In the Book of Mormon we are told in 2 Nephi 23:10

For the stars in heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine

So the light of the moon did not shine during the period between Christ's death and resurection. Now the implications in metaphormia abound and perhaps I'll write more on that later, but for the time being, it can be put simply that the light of the moon represents the light of the living Christ.

Hence Mor'moon can be translated as "more light of the living Christ" in particular as is seen through natural and celestial metaphor.

Our Life....

Our life seems for full, so expanding, so glowing that I can scarcely think of anything to blog about but the clear and present - NOW.

My mind is swirling with thoughts of our new place. The lease was signed last night. It looks like our move-in date will be sometime in early to mid March. Can you say thrilling? I'm simply beaming and so happy to get out of our tiny one bedroom - though it has served me well and I do love it for it's own beauty. It has been home to us for so long - 3 years now and it was the home where I gave birth to Ronan.

But upward and onward! We will soon have a two bedroom place on 10 acres! *happy sigh* I'll take and post pics the next time we get down to the new place.

In other news....

We recently created our new spring altar.

2007_02260001

The Goddess is Ashanti, African Goddess of fertility and those who are down with Ashanti know she's not a happy spring time Goddess of vague fertility - she's the "don't touch unless you want to get pregnant" kind of Goddess. I just felt she needed to come up for a breather and bring her overwhelming fertile gifts to the whole atmosphere of our family. Does that mean we are trying to conceive number three? Not exactly but Seth, myself and some of my closest friends all know another little spirit is hovering around wanting to come through, so let's just say we recently opened the door - tee hee :)

The altar is also sporting some silk flowers, a water color painting and card sent to me by Lizz, hand dipped egg candles, a wooden box carved in Poland, an oracle card featuring a Goddess with a painted egg, my healing stone from the coast of Britiania, a local sea shell, sage smudging stick, a Chalice and Blade frame with pictures of Mariamne and Yeshu (prints taken from paintings my father-in-law did), and a Valentines Day fortune cookie that Nykki made out of felt.

I'm waiting to move and get our finaces all settled so I can figure out how much money I have to go and buy a few decorations for the altar over at the Waldorf Mama Etsy shop - which if you haven't yet checked it out you totally should! I have my eye on a felted egg or two! Then I'm hopping over here to buy the babe a hat.

On the theme of present moment things in life, here's the present moment babe

Hindu and Mormon Leaders Examine Similarities

hindu

(from NewsBlaze.com)

A prominent Hindu leader met a senior leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Salt Lake City (Utah) yesterday and discussed similarities in both the religions.

Rajan Zed, prominent leader of Hindus and Indo-Americans, and Neil L. Anderson, member of the Presidency of the Seventy of LDS Church, met in LDS headquarters in Salt Lake City, and talked about various issues concerning their religions.

Similarities examined were "law of the harvest" of LDS and karma doctrine of Hinduism; life does not begin with birth nor end with death; Brahman is unlimited and pervasive, so is the Light of Christ; Bhakti in Hinduism and worshipping Heavenly Father through devotion.....

The Maeve Chronicles

Magdalen-Rising-2x3-web

I just finished reading the first (historicly) book in the Maeve Chronicals, Magdalen Rising, and I must say that it is by far the best Mary Magdalen tale I have ever read. At first the book was bit off putting. It imagins Mary growing up under the name of Littel Bright One on the Isle of Women in the Celtic Isles. She doens't see a man until she's 15, paints a skull with her first menstrual blood and losses her virginity to a snake. Now, I'm down with all that it's just a bit to "Goddessy than thou".

You can get too much of a good thing and the first few 50 pages or so lay on the Goddess imagary a bit too thick. Also the telling of an ancient tale with modern words, phrasing and attidue is hard to get use to. I nearly just returned it to the library but before I knew it the sickenly sweet, uber-Goddessness back off, the herion's character matured and the writting style grew on me.

By the time the character encounters a young Jesus who has come to the Celtic druid school for education at the behest of a female oracle in Jerusalem, I was hooked.

I liked the portryal of Mary Magdalen, it was well developed but I was surprised to find the book actually bringing me closer to Jesus Christ. The author, Elizabeth Cunningham, re-imagins Jesus' adolsent years brilliantly. He is at once, teacher, God, son of God, male balance to the Magdalen as well as a simple akward teenager trying to get a grasp on his divine calling.

His character is set in a druid college but it's not the setting that matters, the setting is a mere backdrop to watch the Divine mainfest through these two young lovers. With the female expression so close to the maturing Jesus in this tale we get an idea of how the yin and yang polarity of this God and Goddess paring might have realistically happened. Calling to a "rightness" in my subconcious I find I can curl up and find much comfort in this Jesus, that the single, red haired, nascar dad version of the savior in popular culture lacks for me.

This Jesus is Yeshua, Celtic name Esus, with olive skin, spingy, dark hair and a contenence that propells him to the status of someone who's simple and at once complex take on humanity brings him as near to God-hood as one can express on earth.

The shine and falsity placed upon him by modern church interpretation is stripped away, feminized with his strong balance in Magdalen, made human and God the way we all are and is enfused with the restoration of his original time, place and feel, as a humble man from Israel trying to bring peace and love to the world in a uniting all-one-God kind of way.

The humanity of the pair makes them so real you feel you could touch them, and after reading the book I know, at least in some way, part of my consciouness has a better grasp on the prophets Yeshua and Mariamne, in fact I feel like I've known them both, as dear friends, my whole life.

I'm very pleased to have found such a wonderful story which continues the adoration of this cosmic pair.

Blessed Be!

I have ordered the second book already which is called The Passion of Mary Magdalen. I highly recommend The Maeve Chronicles - well at least the first one!
