Headlines - Wednesday February 16

Looks like it's not a new idea:

Exodus 21-22 "If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. 23 But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, 24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

Now check the following "United States of Shame" map and see what South Dakota is famous for:

But if we honestly wish to bring the federal budget closer to balance, without wrecking vital services or plunging the nation back into recession, why not consult the record of the one president in recent memory who actually achieved that goal? Not Ronald Reagan, the affable wingnut whose tax cuts blew open a huge deficit, but Bill Clinton — who left balanced budgets and a nation on track to paying off the national debt entirely. Link

But Obama went the other direction - coddling the super-rich with a trillion dollar gift that he's having to BORROW from the Chinese - why?

"Rep. Steve King (Racist-Fascist) wants to require all citizens to read and understand the Constitution in English.  He should start with his own party.  Christine O'Donnell didn't know the 1st Amendment. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) didn't know what the Constitution says about the census. And two other Republican congressmen violated
the Constitution by casting votes without being officially sworn in. Shouldn't lawmakers raise the bar on themselves and candidates first?"

From 1937 (when the first payments were made)
through 2009 the Social Security program has
expended $11.3 trillion.

From 1937 (when taxes were first collected)
through 2009 the Social Security program
has received $13.8 trillion in income.

Conclusion #1:  The Social Security program has a
   $2.5 trillion surplus.

Conclusion #2. Not one red cent of the current national
debt of $14 trllion is due to the
Social Security program.

"Social conservatives were dissed again at CPAC. I mean, Cheney got heckledcalled a war criminal and a draft dodger at CPAC. I'm sorry, that's not the CPAC that I've always thought of or known."- the vulgar Pigboy, attacking conservativesLink

I heard Ron Paul won the straw poll at CPAC, with Magic Underwear coming in second. Then Trump stood up and said, "Ron Paul is unelectable," which is probably true.

Sounds like they had a rowdy time, with the bedbugs and all.

I'd hate to think of what constitutes "unnatural causes"

Tulsa Police have a pretty high threshhold for the standard, I guess.

TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa woman's headless body was found inside her home and police believe she may have died in late December or early January.

...

Officers found evidence the dogs had eaten parts of the body. The woman's head was found in another part of the home.

...

Police believe the woman died of natural causes many weeks ago.

CBS News Reporter Lara Logan Sexually Assaulted By Egyptian Protesters

During Friday's celebration in Cairo's Tahrir Square, CBC News and 60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan got separated from her camera crew and was beaten and sexually assaulted by protesters. The attack reportedly happened moments after the photo in this post was taken.
"A dangerous element" in the crowd surrounded Logan and her crew, said CBS spokesman Kevin Tedesco. "It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy. In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew," he said in a statement Tuesday. "She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers." Logan went home to the United States on the first flight Saturday and is recovering in a hospital, Tedesco said. CBS, where Logan is chief foreign correspondent, said there would be no further comment about the attack and Logan asked for privacy. At least 140 reporters have been injured or killed covering Egypt since Jan. 30, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Logan and her camera crew had been held at gunpoint by Mubarak's security forces on February 2nd, after which they were ejected from the country. Yet she returned last week to continue covering the revolution.

Be sure to check out the comments on GatewayPundit - she basically had it coming, according to wingnuts.

This from someone who talked a lot about job creation during the campaign but has yet to introduce any bill to promote job creation. Bizarre rape and abortion issues have been the priority for Boehner and the GOP. If they cut more jobs, who will be paying the taxes to maintain what is already being spent?
His response: "Over the last two years since President Obama has taken office the federal government has added 200,000 new federal jobs. And if some of those jobs are lost in this, so be it. We're broke. It's time for us to get serious on how we're spending the nation's money."

Everything about the Iraq invasion and ongoing war sounds like a lie. Continuing the lie when we don't have the money to spend in the first place only makes it worse. The Guardian:

How many hundreds of thousands of Iraqis died because of this man's lies? How many thousands of Americans died because of this man's lies? How many tens of thousands of Americans will live the rest of their lives with broken bodies and fractured minds because of this man's lies?

He is even proud of it. He is proud of telling the lies that paved the way for Bush's little war.

Despicable.

Damn his soul! He should only rot in hell.

And damn George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice and the rest of that inept team of bunglers for rushing to war based on lies and upon their hubris.

Headline of the day
What the Media Would Look Like If It Were Actually Liberal

What it would look like is a bomb crater, a charred hole in the ground. It would scare the pants off the MIC and right-wingers and other evildoers and be 'accidentally' burned to the ground almost instantly.

Other than that, ah, to dream...

This has been pissin' me off for months. Crooks and Liars noticed it too.

ABC's "This Week" - Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Reps. John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Bobby Schilling, R-Ill.; Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; Egyptian-American scholar and Nobel laureate Ahmed Zewail

"Fox News Sunday" - Gov. Haley Barbour, R-Miss.; Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis.

Pretty well-rounded buncha Repug shills.

It's sadly telling that Schieffer, a veteran Sunday morning host, feels the need to frequently turn to a Republican Senator to discuss a foreign policy issue, rather than hosting any number of qualified Democratic voices to opine on Egypt.

McCain has waffled on his views regarding the pro-democracy protests. Initially, he expressed fear about the movement, calling it a dangerous "virus" that could spread throughout the Middle East. But following President Hosni Mubarak's decision to step down, McCain issued a statement applauding the "Egyptian people" for "beginning ... their country's transition to democracy." Moreover, in late January, McCain told CNN it would not be wise for the Obama administration to "cut [Mubarak] loose." A few days later, he was demanding Obama call on Mubarak to resign immediately.

Right -- and this is partly why I started keeping track of McCain's appearances in the first place. The media in general, and Sunday show bookers in specific, consider the Arizona senator a knowledgeable, credible expert on foreign affairs and national security. If there's evidence to support this assumption, McCain's kept it well hidden -- on CNN's Sunday morning show two weeks ago, he urged President Obama to support "the right side of history" in Egypt, but couldn't quite explain which side that is.

That McCain can go 30 minutes without his drool bucket is an accomplishment by itself.

Flyover country gets their political views from these Sunday shows (except the ones lucky enough to get basic cable/dish and FOXPAC of course. They're misinformed all the time.). It's getting so I don't bother with the first half hour. The panels later in the show are generally a little better.

The best and most entertaining are the PBS shows, Inside Washington (help ya down them Capitol steps,
Chuckie?) and The McLaughlin Group (Genghis Khan and a BBOB** on one side, a crippled old widow (feisty, though!) on the other), which I collectively call "The Shouters". Total right-wing crap v. a semblance of reality, which is the best us reality-based types can hope for, but who watches that commie* PBS anyway?

MSNBC makes way for these shows on Sunday by showing a prison life marathon. Yeesh.

Us Dems/Libruls/Progressives/Realists/Fair-minded are basically just being told we're irrelevant or worse and STFU and move to the right, please.

*Commie = tries to present both sides.

Republicons and the federal deficit

I just want to note for the recod that the federal deficit is not a priority for Republicans when they are in the White House.

The federal deficit was not a priority for Republicans when Ronald Reagan, George H.W Bush or George W. Bush were in the White House.

The federal deficit was a priority for Republicans when Bill Clinton was in the White House and, of course, it is now their priority (when they are not trying to criminalize abortion or reduce women to sexual slavery).

The reason is simple: The Republicans use the bloody shirt of the deficit to hobble Democratic priorities and the Democrats are either stupid enough or spineless enough to fall for it every time. But when the Republicans are in charge and they want to spend trillions on corporate welfare programs, well,
deficits don't matter.

Peter King, perhaps fearing they have IRA documents that would incriminate him for material support of terrorists, introduces anti-WikiLeaks legislation "Legislation aimed at helping the United States prosecute WikiLeaks and other sources of leaked information was introduced to the House of Representatives by Rep. Peter King (R-NY) Tuesday. ... "Julian Assange and his associates who have operated and supported WikiLeaks not only damaged US national security with their releases of classified documents, but also placed at risk countless lives, including those of our Nation's intelligence sources around the world," Rep. King, the chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, said in a statement. ... "As international pressure has held back Assange, we now find that his colleagues are planning to spin off a new website called OpenLeaks, dedicated to the same dangerous conduct." ... The bill, known as the the SHIELD Act, would amend the Espionage Act to make publishing classified information "concerning the identity of a classified source or informant of an element of the intelligence community" an act of espionage."

There is so much civil disobedience happening everywhere, except here in terrible America, where it is probably needed the most: Mubarak is in coma-exile, Iran just exploded again, and there's been all sorts of anti-government protests and political unrest in Bahrain, Yemen and Libya. The United States has lots of navy boats stationed in Bahrain, and Barack Obama's precious Predator drones are very busy killing all the browns in Yemen — so obviously these reasonable demands for basic human rights and political reform are terrifying and horribly dangerous to our National Security and our beloved, XXXXL Homeland. Incredible. [BBC/BBC/NYT]

Wisconsin's teabag governor about to have National Guard shoot employees

The dear leader dork acknowledges his people.

America's leading producer of cheese products, Wisconsin, elected a Teabagger governor in November, and it's not a coincidence that said cheese products are now all at least 10% meth byproducts by weight. This Scott Walker fellow has decided that it's time Wisconsin purges the unions from state and municipal governments, and if those union people decide to make any funny business now that collective bargaining is illegal, he will call in the National Guard to shoot them or whatever. The stability and benefits of a government job are sort of the only reason why somebody would subject themselves to the indignities of working a government job, so it's understandable they are upset, but things will all be a lot better for the proud homeland of Joe McCarthy when their government consists of nothing other than the skeletal remains of our founding fathers dressed in period fashion and propped up in chairs. Add some racism to a large dose of teh stupid and you get this.

REP. O'BRIEN: My son who's a Kansas resident, born here, raised here, didn't qualify for any financial aid. Yet this girl was going to get financial aid. My son was kinda upset about it because he works and pays for his own schooling and his books and everything and he didn't think that was fair. We didn't ask the girl what nationality she was, we didn't think that was proper. But we could tell by looking at her that she was not originally from this country. [...]

REP. GATEWOOD: Can you expand on how you could tell that they were illegal?

REP. O'BRIEN: Well she wasn't black, she wasn't Asian, and she had the olive complexion.
Ummm, wouldn't Jesus have an 'olive' complexion? Somehow the Republithugs seem to be regressing and upping the proverbial ante on their stupidity. Sounds like O'Brien is just pissed because she couldn't get some of that socialized big gubmit welfare.
But a darkie did.....unfair.

THAT, in a nutshell is what the fuck is wrong with the humans that infest this cunt tree: I deserve it, but those "others" don't.
